Derren Brown Interview Reveals Some Of The Events, And Some Other Rambling By Me

Well today an interview with Derren has been posted on his blog where he gives us a few more details about his upcoming series The Events. It's quite a lengthy interview so I've extracted some of the more interesting and revealing parts.

Event 1 seems to be one of the more ambitious, if not the most ambitious, of all the events. We already know it's going to get 2 shows, with a 10 minute show on the Wednesday and the 1 hour show on the Friday. We know the 10 minute show is on the same time as the National Lottery. So what more information does the interview add? Well Derren calls this event as the possible "career breaker" - yep that fits in with the Lottery theme. He's also obsessively secretive about it, only stating "if it got out beforehand, we’d probably be stopped from doing it.". Due to the strict rules of the lottery, and the obvious regulations, any attempt at, or perceived attempt at 'rigging' it would obviouslly cause a lot of stir. It still doesn't explain how he is going to pull it off. But out of curiosity I will be buying a lottery ticket on Wednesday with the numbers 6, 10, 25, 32 and 47 included, and one lucky number for myself - possibly 13?.

Event 2 appears to be about mass influencing the audience, and making us all "stuck to our sofas". "I'm sort of experimenting with mass influence and suggestion in the current live show that I’m doing, and this idea came from that work".

Event 3 is apparently titled 'How to Fool the CIA'."There’s one particular area, which is remote viewing, where things can be supposedly viewed and described even though they remain hidden. So a remote viewer, as some believe the CIA were using in the Cold War, would be able to view a document in Russia while sitting in Washington". The premise of this show is that Derren will perform a 'Remote Viewing' stunt on a national scale, including live with the tv audience, as well as some prepared stuff. Event 4 - Well there's nothing but speculation about Event 4, possible something football focussed because of all the football references? Or something to do with all the reveresed, backwards stuff? Time will tell, but he will want to end of a bang

We learnt previously that each event will either be to trick, to win, to fool or to control. So here's what it all pans down to:

  • Event 1 - To Win (The Lottery)
  • Event 2 - To Control (Sticking us to our sofas, among other things)
  • Event 3 - To Fool (As they apparently let the title slip in the interview - 'To Fool The CIA')
  • Event 4 - To Trick
